9 english

format

The year 9 english course is divided into 4 elements per lesson

1. Creative writing task
2. Spelling test/Study lesson
3. Text reading / discussion
4. Text response / tasks

Creative Writing Tasks
Students will complete 8 creative writing tasks in their books during the term - these will be handed up and marked against a rubric. Students will then choose one of these to work through an editing process and complete a 'good' copy for assessment. Students will receive an overall grade each term for their effort on these stories and a seperate grade for their final edited piece.

Spelling Test
Students will be given 10 words to learn during the week that are integral to the work we are studying in the topic. Students will be asked to spell the words and understand their meanings during a lesson at the end of the week. These tests will contribute to the students grades

Study lesson
After the spelling test activity students will be given the rest of the lesson to complete any outstanding work or catch up on work if they have been absent. It is also a time we may view related video or participate in group activities.

Text reading / Discussion
This lesson will be used to read the text or complete group activities on the text.

Text Response / Tasks
Usually during a long lesson - this is when students will be expected to complete tasks about the test we are studying. These are primarily individual tasks.
