Today was day two of rethinking how i teach and my yr 9 class were the first to try something a bit different. I have arranged the class so that there is now a large circle of tables in the centre. My yr 9 english class were split into pairs with people they don’t normally work with and had to find words to describe the personality of a character from the novel. They had 5 minutes and when they were down the rest of the class listened and approved the words. They received points for each accurate descriptive word. We then shuffled pairs and wrote down the skills of a different character ( each student had different characters). Students worked really well and most interesting were the discussions we had about whether certain skills were really skills or just personality… great work and the reward of chocolate for the three students with the most points helped everyones enthusiasm !
Yr 10 History were still working on collating their survey results and using excel to create graphs that best show the results.
Yr 10 Geography started their Inquiry based project today and as a result were forced ( :) ) to listen to me talking about my travels through Europe and living in London. Their task is to think about where they would like to live if they could live anywhere in the world. I talked to them about the places Id been and why i liked living there. They then had time to think about where they would like to live and we got in groups of similar regions to see if they could identify the reasons for their choses.
This blog is a record of the day to day classroom activities for teachers, parents and students. This is also a bit of a personal record for myself on how things are going and what each class is working on.
