LITERACY

Sentences I loved....

"As the sheep were happily grazing on the green grass near the castle and the water was streaming underneath the bridge... "
"Blood dripping down his face, protecting the castle from enemies. His friends gone, the enemy got the best of them. He was, the last knight."
"It's cold. Not warmth in sight. All is quiet, except for the sound of cars roaring above me on the bridge. It always makes me feel like I am nothing. It's like when you pull a drain plug and all of the water loses it's life. That sounds like me. All of my life."
"My horrible mother was standing at the top of the castle watching like a shark waiting for blood"

Conjuctions

A conjunction is a word that "joins" ideas together.
A conjunction joins two parts of a sentence, two nouns or two verbs together.

yet, so, although, because, since, unless

Now let's shuffle things around ...

Choose two sentences - they can be yours or someone else's that you like - and shuffle the order.  Some changes might need a few tweaks to make it work. You can see how the information is still the same but some of the conjunctions have now been dropped so that the sentence makes sense.

Original sentence : The knight screamed and ran towards the drawbridge but as he ran he saw the portcullis dropped because the enemy were close, so he turned and faced them with his sword drawn.

a. As he ran the portcullis dropped because  the enemy were close behind,  the knight screamed as he ran towards the drawbridge, so he turned and faced them with his sword drawn.

b. He turned and faced the enemy with his sword drawn  because the portcullis had dropped as he had run towards the drawbridge.
