Prisoners, Prisoners, everywhere !

So the Industrial Revolution created a huge change in the way people people lived, and also where they lived. Cities like London grew incredibly in size as people moved to be closer to the factories but unfortunately not everyone was able to get enough work to sustain themselves, and anywhere there are a lot of people to take advantage of - people will do so. Crime and imprisonment just got serious.

 50 word Research assignment

1. Explain the conditions British prisoners were under before transportation to Australia - answer in exactly 50 words

2. Explain why convicts were sent to Australia : answer in exactly 50 words

3. Provide evidence which shows the age of the youngest child to be sent to Australia as a convict. Show at least 3 sources.  

4. Describe using a minimum of 2 primary sources what the conditions were like aboard the transportation ships.   50 words exactly  ( 25 words per source ) 

5. Choose one the following and construct a guide for prisoners/cooks  min 50 wds. This can be a poster/ pamphlet/ infograph etc - it should be simple yet effective, lots of images and simple writing 

a) A disease common among prisoners 
- causes
- symptoms
- cures

b) A commonly eaten food
- recipe
- ingredients
- nutritional value
- taste/ variations

​c) Surviving Australia guide for prisoners
- climate
- dangers eg flora/fauna/environmental
- environment - local features eg mountains/rivers
