So today was a busy today, my year 9 history class have started looking at the inventions of the Industrial revolution and grouping them into categories of steam, clothing and farming. It has help a lot watching a bit of Oliver Twist to give them some background about what life was like. The Yr 9 english class attempted the PATr testing on the computers but it ended up a bit chaotic as some passwords didnt work and the computer screens were quite hard to read. But we struggled through and quite a few students finished.
The year 8 class had a great time surfing Youtube for their favourite clip which they needed to post below on the the blog with a 25 words description. Not only was this going to give me a good indication about the kinds of things they enjoyed doing/watching but it also gave me a really go idea about their IT skills as they need to copy the YouTube url in order to paste it in my blog. And because we are going to watch them tomorrow in class Ive just been previewing and approving the posts - (so if you dont see your video below it means theres been an problem)..... One of other things this exercise has done is give me an idea about what students feel is approproate to post on a public site for school - we will need to have a chat about that next lesson :)
The year 10 students are reading some articles about happiness and well being and answering some questions that involve close reading. I think they need to step it up a little as they dont seem to realise that yr 10 becomes a little more serious and harder then year 9 - but its early days yet...I'm sure they'll kick into gear soon :)
So the day ended and I rushed home to watch the latest Danisnotonfire and Thatcher youtube videos with my son. He's now facetiming friends while playing minecraft, and I'm about to watch some more of the year 8 youtube videos they've posted :)
This blog is a record of the day to day classroom activities for teachers, parents and students. This is also a bit of a personal record for myself on how things are going and what each class is working on.
